APHIS Unveils New VHS Web Page |

Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) is a serious threat to aquaculture and fisheries in the entire Great Lakes Region. In an attempt to educate the public and industry about the threat of VHS, APHIS has created an educational web page. They have included a lot of information relevant to aquaculture, including safety guidelines as well as contact information by state. Check out their new web site for more information. |

Purdue Fish Fry Brings Fish Back to the Menu |

After a 10 year absence, fish was brought back to the menu at the annual Purdue Ag Alumni Fish Fry. The Indiana Soybean Alliance was a premier sponsor of the event and facilitated the addition of yellow perch to the menu. The fish were supplied by Bell Aquaculture of Albany, Ind. The Fish Fry was Bell’s inaugural sale, as they have just opened for business. You can learn more about the event through WISH TV's coverage. Aquaculture Cooperative Workshop Scheduled |

We will be hosting an Aquaculture Cooperative Workshop on Friday, March 27. The workshop will focus on the benefits of the cooperative business model and will feature a specific proposal from an Indiana business that is interested in starting a fish cooperative. PETA Starting a “Sea Kitten” Campaign |

PETA has started a fish campaign targeted at mothers and young children. They are now calling fish, “Sea Kittens”. NPR recently covered this story. This campaign seems to focus on both aquaculture and fishing. PETA has developed an entire web site devoted to their “Sea Kitten” campaign. |
